SMMART is building a team of highly qualified instructors from community law enforcement agencies and educational institutions. We strive to build a coalition of private industry, government and academia to increase awareness of the potential dangers and the influence of social media consumption.

The SMMART curricula are impactful, interactive and developmentally age-specific for 4th-5th grades, Middle School, High School and College audiences. The goal of SMMART is to have Certified SMMART Instructors in each of the 3,143 counties in the United States. Providing community leaders with the knowledge and training to deliver the curricula that will reach every child and young adult in the country.

The key to effective delivery of school-based programing is having hometown trusted leaders in the forefront. SMMART will dedicate the time and resources necessary to ensure that the instructors master the knowledge and skills to deliver the course content with fidelity.

Advisory Board

The SMMART Advisory Board will include experts from various fields including: Education, Law Enforcement, Intelligence and Social Media Organizations to ensure that the content and delivery has input from diverse viewpoints.

SMMART’s Curriculum Advisory Board will include teachers and officers who have been certified and who have delivered the training. This advisory board will ensure that the programs are continuously improving and evolving.

Certified SMMART Instructors

The instructor force will be made up of two groups of community leaders: local law enforcement officers who are recommended by leadership in their community agencies and highly qualified computer science teachers who are recommended by their administration. These local leaders will attend comprehensive SMMART Certification Training. Certified SMMART Instructors (CSIs) will gain a complete understanding of the subject matter and the materials to allow them to deliver the curricula as they are written, thereby ensuring implementation fidelity.

The benefits of the SMMART Certification Training will be multi-faceted. The law enforcement members will gain additional knowledge and understanding of the social media ecosystem and how children are manipulated and victimized. The computer science teachers will gain additional knowledge about how social media has become a new battlefield for law enforcement and national security. Local computer science teachers and local law enforcement officers will benefit from the collaboration with each other and with the SMMART advisory board members.
